Wrestlers Are Softer Nowadays Declares Shawn Michaels

Pro wrestling has changed in many ways through the production, creative and inside the ring. Not too long ago, seeing wrestlers bleed, use foul language and take unnecessary chair shots to the head are over.

As a result, fans are seeing a better product that also keeps the wrestlers safe. Most seem to like the change, but the old timers still enjoy the old style.

Speaking to K&C Masterpiece, Shawn Michaels went over the current status of the business and noted how wrestlers are softer in the latest generation.

“I’m pretty good about not being the bitter old timer,” said Michaels. “I screwed up a bunch and try to show them the error of particular ways.”

“It’s a different business. Some of it is for the better. It’s a much healthier atmosphere than it was when I started.”

“There are some people who argue that it makes them a little softer. I can’t disagree with that in some respects, but at the same time, it doesn’t mean that it can’t be better and can’t be shaped up.”

After retiring inside the ring, outside of a one-off match from Saudi Arabia, Michaels took some backstage roles in WWE. He became a trainer for NXT in 2016 and also a producer and writer two years later. By October 2021, he was named the Vice President of Talent Development and remains the General Manager of NXT.

With Michaels running NXT and Triple H still having a say, WWE seems to be in the right hands going forward. As for Vince McMahon, he probably should have stayed retired.
