He has already been out of action for a bit, and things are a bit unsettled…so when could we see Kenny Omega’s AEW return?
Or, for that matter, when could we see Omega return to any wrestling ring?
In mid-December, coming out of nowhere, we learned that Kenny Omega would be out of action, effective immediately.
The former AEW Champion had come down with diverticulitis and had been hospitalized due to the condition.
Losing a top star is never ideal. Omega was working alongside veteran Chris Jericho in a tag team program.
Now, things are unclear as to when Omega will climb back into the ring.
AEW Title Plans May Have Changed
A month after the initial news dropped, there is a bit more information coming out.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer has now given us a rough timeline for when we might next hear some news.
Specifically, we already knew that Omega’s condition was so severe that he required hospitalization. In fact, it was noted he fought it off almost too long.
In some cases, the patient may require surgery to rectify things.
When Could We See Kenny Omega’s AEW Return?
In Omega’s case, his condition was so severe that surgery was not an immediate option.
Now, it could eventually be, but it is not off the table.
According to Meltzer’s recent report, the next milestone is seven weeks out.
At that point, Omega will be re-evaluated. If things have improved, surgery may no longer be needed.
The report further reminded us that, even though the next checkpoint is in seven weeks, that does not mean we will get Omega back in seven…or soon after.
It’s an uncomfortable condition and with Omega in that amount of pain, it could be quite some time before we see him in an AEW ring.
Still, the more important thing is his long term health.
