It is widely expected Brock Lesnar vs. Cody Rhodes will happen at SummerSlam as WWE looks to end the feud, and they have a rarely used gimmick match in mind.
Brock Lesnar Vs. Cody Rhodes 3 To Get Rare Gimmick Match
At WrestleMania 39, many thought Cody Rhodes would finish the story and defeat Roman Reigns. In the end, Reigns left as champion and has now surpassed 1,000 days with the gold.
The night after WrestleMania 39, Rhodes wanted a rematch with Reigns. Instead, Reigns proposed Cody find a partner to take on The Bloodline.
In a huge surprise, Brock Lesnar appeared and offered to team with Rhodes. Before the match started, Lesnar turned heel and attacked “The American Nightmare.”
They met at Backlash, with Rhodes getting the pin. Lesnar got retribution at Night of Champions after Rhodes passed out from a Kimura Lock.
The plan is for them to have their trilogy at SummerSlam. A gimmick is expected and the Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted how a Bullrope Match is very possible.
WWE has rarely done Bullrope Matches. It is one of the few gimmicks that has not been oversaturated.
There have been some Strap Matches, but that is slightly different compared to the Bullrope Match.
WWE did have the gimmick for Eddie Guerrero vs. JBL at The Great American Bash in 2004 and then for Randy Orton vs. Dusty Rhodes at The Great American Bash in 2007. In fact, Dusty Rhodes, the father of Cody, made the match famous decades ago.
Unless the plan has changed, WWE is looking at redoing Rhodes against Reigns at WrestleMania 40. Therefore, another win against Lesnar would help keep that storyline going.
And, Lesnar seems due for a vacation. Whatever WWE decides, Brock Lesnar vs. Cody Rhodes should be another entertaining contest.
So, do our fans think Brock Lesnar vs. Cody Rhodes in a trilogy will be the best encounter yet?
