The WWE Money In The Bank 2023 report card is in as, for the first time, the company presented the annual show from England.
WWE Money In The Bank 2023 Report Card: UK Grades Are In!
Men’s Money In The Bank Ladder Match: Damian Priest vs. Ricochet vs. Shinsuke Nakamura vs. LA Knight vs. Santos Escobar vs. Butch vs. Logan Paul
After a few decades away, WWE returned to England for a pay per view. Naturally, they opened the show with a Men’s MITB Ladder Match.
Unfortunately, it was one of the least memorable bouts in the event’s history. Logan Paul and Ricochet got people talking with the spot to the outside that looked anything but natural.
LA Knight was more over than Damian Priest, yet they let a Judgement Day member leave with the victory. Priest’s hard-work with Bad Bunny is clearly paying off. Grade: B-
Intercontinental Championship: GUNTHER vs. Matt Riddle
Considering how GUNTHER has been Intercontinental Champion for over a year, I thought WWE would have a major match set for for the WWE Money in the Bank 2023 report card. That was not the case as Matt Riddle was tossed in last minute.
The match would have worked better on SmackDown, where they could have closed the show in a 20 minute bout. Instead, it felt like WWE was in a hurry to move ahead.
We did see Drew McIntyre return to a massive pop from the live crowd. I do have to wonder if McIntyre has only been brought back to push GUNTHER into the main event. Grade: B-
Cody Rhodes vs. Dominik Mysterio
At one point this week, Cody Rhodes vs. Dominik Mysterio was billed as the main event. Clearly, WWE changed directions as they were in the middle of the card.
Rhodes won with Rhea Ripley playing a small role on the outside. Honestly, I think we were all waiting on Brock Lesnar returning to confront Rhodes.
No, that did happen as Rhodes won with no sight of Lesanr. Still, we got Drew McIntyre and John Cena making unannounced appearances, which left the crowd, and our WWE Money in the Bank 2023 report card, very happy. Grade: B
The Bloodline (Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa) vs. The Usos (Jey Uso and Jimmy Uso)
We all knew, at some point, The Bloodline would splinter. It starts with The Usos, who teased leaving for months.
Next will be Solo Sikoa and then Paul Heyman, which should turn Roman Reigns back into a super face. Next time WWE returns to England, Reigns might not be champion anymore.
Go figure, a referee bump in the main event. Although, Reigns has been pinned for the first time in about three years thanks to Jay Uso. Grade: B
World Heavyweight Championship: Seth “Freakin” Rollins vs. Finn Bálor
The match was about seven years in the making. Finn Balor became the first Universal Champion, but was forced to vacate due to injuries sustained during the match.
All this time later and both are still in the main event scene. The only difference is they swapped who is the face and heel.
A major plus is how Damian Priest teased cashing-in, but it ended costing Balor the match and title. We might be watching The Judgement Day losing a member, or the soon to be rise of Priest. Grade: B
WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship: Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler vs. Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez
Not too long ago, it seemed like the curse of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship continued. When Liv Morgan was injured, she and Raquel Rodriguez had to vacate the gold.
The plus seemed to be how WWE finally found long-term champions with Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler. Seeing how the match ended, the now former champions are likely done.
Could Tag Champs Break Up Soon?
I am glad to see the belts back with Morgan and Rodriguez back at the top. If they cannot sell the belts, maybe WWE needs to forget them. Grade: B
Women’s Money In The Bank Ladder Match: Zelina Vega vs. Becky Lynch vs. Zoey Stark vs. Bayley vs. Iyo Sky vs. Trish Stratus
When the Men’s MITB Ladder Match did not deliver, I had doubts about the event. Eventually, the women got their chance and they made it count.
Iyo Sky seemed like the obvious choice to win as Becky Lynch, Zoey Stark and Trish Stratus are heavily involved in one angle. Despite Bayley, Sky managed to leave with the briefcase.
The code-red between Zelina Vega and Stark might be move of the night for the WWE Money in the Bank 2023 report card. As for the conclusion, nicely done with the handcuffs and everybody walked away looking stronger.
Grade: A-
