Stop me if you’ve heard this before : WWE has big plans for NXT tag team.
It’s been said before. Sometimes it comes true, sometimes it does not.
We are hearing it again, and it does seem like WWE indeed has a plan and is executing it.
Johnny Gargano Announces NXT Future
Whether things work out, of course, remains to be seen.
That is the challenge with sports entertainment. The company can plan for someone to be the big Superstar, but if fans don’t buy in…it’s a bust.
So…let’s run this down one more time…and I am sure it won’t be the last time…
WWE Has Big Plans For NXT Tag Team
Lately, we’ve seen NXT being used in ways not seen before.
Specifically, more often we are seeing “damaged” main roster talent come back to Florida, rehab things a bit and give it another go.
Currently, Baron Corbin is calling Orlando home, trying to revive a promising career.
He is not the only former main-roster transplant, as Los Lotharios have been down in NXT the past few months.
Recently, the team teased a breakup, but it seems that is already being mended.
According to the Observer, it is all part of a bigger plan for Humberto and Angel. On a recent show, we saw vignettes airing to change how we see these two.
Instead of goofball Latin lover characters, the plan is to build them up as legit Mexican babyface Superstars.
Eventually, they’d be brought back to RAW or SmackDown, where they’d presumably get a nice tag team push.
For the time being, the pair need to reconcile and refocus, but that is already in motion. From there, perhaps they’d chase the NXT Tag Team Championships, before we see them return on Mondays or Fridays.
While the main roster tag team action has been really good of late, it would be nice to have more “specialists” and fewer mash up teams. Perhaps this is a step toward that.
