At the time, fans mostly hated it, but does WWE regret end of WrestleMania 39?

Specifically, does the company regret not putting the title on Cody Rhodes, a moment that seemed tailor made for the American Nightmare to complete his story?

Considering how successful things have been of late? Probably not.

And considering that the WrestleMania 39 loss to Roman Reigns has done little, if anything, to cool off his popularity?

It would seem Cody Rhodes has no reason to regret the ending, either.

But, with the Show of Shows now months in the rear-view, everyone has the benefit of more time and more perspective.

According to the Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer, no.

While the company had internal disagreements, with voices not happy with the decision to keep the belts on Roman Reigns, the progress since is undeniable.

Pretty much every show, in every city, the company is announcing the best gates ever for that arena.

In other words…business is good.

Reigns and the Bloodline continue to dominate, but Cody Rhodes? He’s as popular as ever.

If anything, he’s probably even more over than before.

And if you doubt that, just listen to the fans in every arena sing along to his entrance. The woah’s get louder and louder week over week.

Plus, as Meltzer notes, it’s probably not an “if” but rather a “when” the company puts the belt on the American Nightmare.

The counter to that is that, as hot as the Bloodline story is, you could certainly argue that much of it could be done without Reigns being champion.

Perhaps if he’d lost the title, it would have spiked things, to see how he’d react after losing a prize he’s now held for more than 3 years.
