Last week on SmackDown, Austin Theory vs Carmelo Hayes was stopped early due a dangerous spot and we are learning a concussion was diagnosed.
Austin Theory Suffered Concussion In Scary SmackDown Spot
WWE put together Austin Theory and Carmelo Hayes in a special SmackDown match. There was no winner as a nasty fall off the top rope caused the match to be stopped.
For the most part, WWE nor the superstars have commented. Now, in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer mentioned how Theory has a concussion.
“They were both hurt on a spot on the 1/12 Smackdown show in Lincoln, NE,” said Meltzer. “Theory gave Hayes a downward spiral off the ropes and both landed badly.”
“Theory ended up with a concussion and Hayes was shaken up. But, Hayes was able to wrestle on NXT on Tuesday in the tag match.”
Both superstars landed on their head. While a concussion is dangerous, it could have been much worse.
Still, the status of Theory going forward will remain TBD. There is no magic cure as one could be healed in a week and, sometimes, it takes years.
In sports, athletes have seen their career end due to the same injury.
SmackDown is later tonight, but Theory has not been confirmed for the show. In all likelihood, he will not return to TV until being cleared by doctors.
Look for Grayson Waller to work alone for the time. Waller has no problem getting heat, so he will easily find another program.
Carmelo Hayes seems to be doing better. He worked NXT on Tuesday, teaming with Trick Williams.
They defeated Edris Enofe & Malik Blade to advance in the 2024 Dusty Rhodes Tag-Team Classic. The duo could be considered the favorite, unless one turns on the other.
So, after learning Austin Theory suffered a concussion on SmackDown, we wish him a healthy recovery.
