On social media Sunday night, NXT boss Shawn Michaels announced who the mystery NXT Superstar would be.

Now, when that graphic came up on SmackDown during the announcement of the tournament to name Logan Paul’s next challenger, we all wondered.

And, let’s be honest…the NXT men’s locker room has no shortage of intriguing talents worthy of such a big opportunity.

Bron Breakker would have surprised no one.

Had Ilja Dragunov lost his NXT Championship, he would have been viable too.

Baron Corbin? Why not.

Dijak? Same idea.

None of those would have upset anyone, all have solid credentials, and there are probably a couple I did not even name yet.

But, Carmelo Hayes is a great choice, for plenty of reasons.

Hayes has been one of the best in Orlando for quite some time, and he has earned plenty of praise along the way.

Now, he has a chance to win the United States Championship.

Granted, he will have to win a couple matches before he gets a crack at Logan Paul

But, he has a chance, and before he’s battled his first opponent, you can’t help but wonder.

Is this possibly his call up to the main roster?

The timing is a bit interesting, of course.

For those not following NXT, many think that we will eventually learn that it was Hayes who attacked his on-air sidekick, Trick Williams.

At the close of Saturday’s Deadl1ne PLE, Williams came out to get a look at Dragunov…but so too did Hayes.

So, maybe Melo takes down Logan Paul…but there could be unfinished business in NXT, so stay tuned.

Hard to argue though…a match featuring Hayes and Paul could be a spot fest.
