MJF Likely Taking Time Off, Tony Khan On His AEW Future
For 406 days, Maxwell Jacob Freedom was AEW World Champion. He made history during that time, as nobody has held the belt for an entire year let alone 400-plus days.
Like in anything, the reign was bound to end. And, that is what happened at Worlds End as Samoa Joe is now champion.
It concludes a horrible week of for former champion.
He also lost the Ring Of Honor Tag Team Championship on Dynamite after Joe turned on him. Then, after dropping the gold, Adam Cole was revealed as The Devil who has been tormenting MJF for months.
The general idea is he will take a break and heal those injuries. Many believe he re-signed with AEW, but Tony Khan would no answer the question at the Worlds End media scrum.
“Right now I can’t comment on the future of MJF and AEW other than to say that we’re very grateful for everything that he’s done to get us here,” said Khan. “MJF has been a very big part of AEW now for 5 years.”
“And, he is one of the people who helped build this place. He was in the first AEW match ever and wrestled through the pandemic.”
“He was on the Brodie Lee tribute show which was three years ago and He was a big part of that. In fact, Brodie Lee Jr hit him with a cane during the tribute show.”
WWE likely has interest in MJF, but his style might not fit well with their younger audience. Even if he is not signed to a contract at the moment, there will be plenty of offers made.
So, will MJF remain in AEW or is likely WWE bound?
