Road Dogg had a solid career wrestling, with the biggest moment coming as part of DX. Besides working in the ring, he also knows a good amount of how things run backstage.

For about the last decade, he has focused more on behind the scenes. He held numerous roles for WWE, but was released in January 2022.

Like many who have departed WWE, they tested the waters elsewhere like AEW. In the past, AEW has signed many former WWE names, but not Road Dogg.

On Oh…You Didn’t Know, Road Dogg noted how AEW rejected hiring him.

“I think it’s awesome to have competition,” said Road Dogg. “I think it’s a good time to be in the business.”

“Three Ts, time, talent, and then the team, the leadership team. Look, that’s where I will get a little confrontational and opinionated. I think we got a great leadership team in place, and I think the right people are in the right spots to make the right things happen.”

“I don’t know that I could say the same for the others, and yet I have no idea how the other is run. I want to be very clear on that. I’ve only heard from individuals. I have no idea, I’ve never experienced it. [Tony Khan] wouldn’t have me, I asked. I asked him to take me to prom, and he wouldn’t take me.”

It was interesting how Khan did not sign Road Dogg as another member of his staff knows him well. Since the beginning of AEW, Billy Gunn has been part of AEW.

Currently, Gunn is working with The Acclaimed. Together, they have been one of the more organic teams who have gotten over.

Luckily for Road Dogg, he was not out of work for long. WWE rehired him in August of last year. He replaced JeffJarrett as the Senior Vice President of Live Events.
