He’s long been a part-timer, but could John Cena’s time be up sooner than we think?
Discuss John Cena’s career and more in our all-new Fightline forums!
John Cena is surely one of the best WWE Superstars ever. Michael Cole and others call him the GOAT. It can surely be debated just where he ranks, but he is certainly one of the greats. Thanks to the Hollywood strikes last year, fans got to enjoy an extended return from him, ending at the fall PLE in Saudi Arabia. Most recently, we observed him return to WrestleMania in Philadelphia.
Enjoying Philly?
At WrestleMania 40, Cena returned to avenge Solo Sikoa. It was Sikoa who effectively spiked John Cena back to Hollywood. In the City of Brotherly Love, he took out Solo as some WWE Legends rode in to stop the Bloodline. But was that WrestleMania run-in his last? Could John Cena’s time be up soon?
Cena has gone on record as saying he intends to be fully retired and out of wrestling by the age of 50. That sounds far away, until you realize that he is very nearly 47 as we speak. Speaking on the Pat McAfee Show, as covered by Wrestling Inc, he shed some light on that topic. On one hand, he spoke wishfully of one more run to WrestleMania. Of course, working in Hollywood means that it is hard to clear his schedule in such a way that permits that.
But, he confirmed that he’s done by 50, but added a wrinkle. Specifically, he said that he feels the end could be sooner than that. He has 3 years until his line in the sand, but if he feels his time could be up sooner, then we really need to enjoy him any chance we get. I have a feeling that if the stars align, we might see him close things out at a WrestleMania in the not too distant future. From there, it would be an eventual and richly deserved Hall of Fame induction.
