You might have noticed that the company has recently locked up a few big names, and from what we can say…WWE is now looking to avoid free agents.
As in, the company does not want to allow any of it’s talents to leave.
Which, saying it like that sounds bad.
But to simply state it, any Superstar who has a contract nearing it’s expiration, WWE is actively working to avoid them becoming free agents.
We know they are not actively avoiding outside free agents, having signed Jade Cargill and CM Punk recently.
But, with the signings of Dom and Rey Mysterio, as well as Charlotte Flair’s rumored extension, the effort is there.
WWE Now Looking To Avoid Free Agents
There are still quite a few bigger names with contracts believed to have a 2024 end date on them.
Notable among those would be current champion Seth Rollins, as well as his wife, Becky Lynch.
Someone on that level, or slightly below, would be Drew McIntyre.
There is also belief that Sheamus may have a deal expiring soon. Given he has missed time with injury, he is surely going to to see a couple months tacked on.
With those three major names re-signed, it certainly looks like TKO is doing what needs to be done to get pen to paper on news deals.
This tells me that, if the Superstars are in the company’s long range plans…AND those Superstars want to remain with WWE…a deal will get done.
The report indicated that these deals have been bringing with them increased monetary compensation. That does make signing a lot easier.
It’s an interesting development, to be sure. A few years back, as AEW was brand new, WWE signed a whole host of talent to some insane contracts to keep them away from the competition.
Now, that may be part of the motivation. But it surely seems like this is mostly about good business practices…and yes, business is good.
