While Sunday was a big night for AEW, in the post-show scrum, Tony Khan talks about Jade Cargill’s exit.
After all, Cargill is arguably the biggest AEW-made name to leave the company.
Sure, Cody Rhodes left, but Rhodes was a big name long before Tony Khan got involved.
But, before AEW, how many knew Jade Cargill existed?
Cargill had long been someone WWE officials had admired from afar, and that admiration recently turned into a WWE contract.
Jade Cargill Signs Multi-Year WWE Deal
Tony Khan Talks About Jade Cargill’s Exit
After Sunday’s WrestleDream, as he always does, Khan addressed the media.
While plenty of attention was put on AEW’s latest signing, the former WWE Superstar Edge, Tony took some time to get into losing Jade Cargill.
What might surprise fans is that, according to Khan, he did not see her departure coming.
According to him, he made Cargill what he deemed a good offer, based on what she’d been seeking. He noted that she later returned and asked for more, which he says he agreed to…and yet she still wound up signing with WWE.
There will be some surprised that Khan spilled the beans on negotiations, rather than take the high road.
I am sure some fans will see his comments and spin it as Cargill being greedy.
What it all boils down to, based on her own comments after signing with WWE became official?
She said she isn’t doing this for the money, but for the love of the business and what it means.
Specifically, she wants a legacy, she has dream matches, she wants that WrestleMania moment and she wants to get into the Hall of Fame.
None of that happens in AEW, but she sees it as her dream in WWE.
And, she really doesn’t need the money-she’s married to a former Major League Baseball star (Brandon Phillips), so she’s likely got a decent amount of financial security no matter what.
What will be interesting to see now is…is Cargill the first of several AEW-made stars who seek the bigger challenges and opportunities of WWE?
After all, MJF has famously reminded us of his free agent date…
