Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF) is still the AEW World Champion and one-half of the Ring of Honor (ROH) Tag Titles. While he may be injured, he’s been busy promoting the recently released wrestling flick that he’s in, Iron Claw. Despite a packed schedule, he also had the time to update fans on his All Elite Wrestling contract status.
MJF’s Update On His AEW Contract Status
MJF recently appeared on SI Media with Jimmy Traina and commented on his current AEW deal. He he states he’s “never lied” and his AEW deal is up January 1, 2024.
He adds that he “loves AEW”, but after the Worlds End pay-per-view (PPV) it’ll be time for him to assess the situation in a “professional setting. He’s going to face Samoa Joe at the event, taking place on Saturday, December 30th in Long Island, New York.
When asked if he has signed a new deal with AEW, MJF stated he has not. However, fans may not want to take his comments too seriously.
After all, it’s quite possible that his statement is simply adding fuel to the fire for an AEW storyline. It’s hard to say if MJF is truthfully providing an update or if this is all kayfabe.
MJF’s Statements About The “Bidding War” Of 2024
For more than a year, he has talked about the “Bidding War” of 2024 on AEW TV. Still, in recent months he has mentioned less about his contract with the company on television.
It’s hard to ignore that it does look like AEW storylines surrounding MJF are coming to a head as the Worlds End PPV draws near. It’ll be very interesting to see what happens next, and if he ends up staying with AEW or heads to the WWE.
