Now that his return has actually been confirmed, here are 5 matches I want to see for Randy Orton.
Yes, I am being needy, but I think that many fans will probably agree with at least some of these choices.
Again, not all…but some should be appealing to everyone.
But with every “top 5” list you see on the Internet…everyone thinks they can come up with a better one…and this will likely be no different.
Lists are subjective…except for this one, I promise.
Right off the bat, we know we cannot see anything between Orton and his goofy tag team partner…because said goofy tag team partner is currently not in WWE.
I guess I shouldn’t say we won’t ever see it…because who knows, right?
5 Matches I Want To See For Randy Orton
And just to be clear, these are in no specific order, and for this effort I am focused more on a singular event, as opposed to how good an actual feud could be.
A World Championship match…and WIN!
I happily admit that this one is very vague, but that’s OK.
Orton has been away a long time, and has probably put himself through Hell just to get back into a WWE ring…after at least one report indicated a doctor told him not to.
To me, regardless of all he’s accomplished already, that deserves another moment on top of the wrestling world.
And, as a 14 time world champion already…why not get him one more? I honestly thought at one point that perhaps WWE would get Orton into the same tier as Cena and Flair…and there is still a chance that they could…but I doubt it.
I could see him having a really short reign if it does happen…like, have him win, only to be cashed in on the same night or shortly after.
But a title win is a title win.
Austin Theory
Theory is a young and talented Superstar…much like the Viper used to be.
He rubs people the wrong way, and generally he does not seem to care. Does that remind you of anyone else?
Austin Theory has not quite gone and stolen the Legend Killer persona, but he certainly has enjoyed bragging about the legendary scalps he’s taken.
You can bet he’d love to step on Orton on his way to the top…and I think I’d love to see an RKO out of nowhere on Theory.
Honorable mention here for Grayson Waller…but I didn’t think he warranted his own section, seeing as he and Theory are two peas in a pod.
CM Punk
Fine, sure, scream all you want. As I am writing this, I admit that Punk to WWE has yet to happen. Maybe by the time you read this it has…or maybe it never does.
But, if it does happen, why not have two rivals run it back?
Admittedly until or unless Punk gets brought back, this is a dream scenario.
But, I have to look at things thinking that Orton might not have a great many matches left in the tank. It took a lot to get back here, so let’s have some fun with it, right?
Jey Uso
Even though Main Event Jey Uso is a face right now, and Orton is returning as a face…you could see Uso’s body language change when Cody announced his fifth member.
People may love Jey now, but Orton is one who still has a beef with him.
He may play nice at Survivor Series…but the Viper does not always have to play nice.
It’s a safe bet that at some point down the line, Orton and Uso throw down. Or, if ever WWE wants to have a feud, there is plenty there to make this one happen.
John Cena
If I rewind to my own musings earlier in my writing career, I am certain at one point or another I vented about how we were watching our one billionth Cena/Orton main event.
Tired of them then, it’s funny to sit here now and not hate the idea of one more match to close their story for good.
As with Uso…actually, even more so than with Jey…this one needs very little talk.
Think back to when Triple H and the Undertaker exchanged no words when agreeing to their WrestleMania bout. Nothing needs to be said, just put them in the ring and enjoy.
We may never see them battle again as it is, so if we somehow manage even one more…be thankful.
Bonus: Cody Rhodes
OK, fine, this is six, but it’s my feature and I wanted a bonus.
Rhodes is the one bringing him back to WWE for WarGames…but there is nothing stopping him from eventually taking a shot at the American Nightmare.
As Rhodes said himself…they have a Legacy.
All if these could make great matches and programs…and this is without factoring in some other amazing talent WWE does have (LA Knight, Karrion Kross, AJ Styles…Roman Reigns) or talent they may soon bring in (like someone from AEW).
However long we get to enjoy the Apex Predator, just remember to take it all in. Love him or hate him, he will be remembered as one of his generation’s best.
