He is an active superstar on the roster, but Pete Dunne was recently working in a backstage WWE role that many see as surprising.

Pete Dunne is only 30 years old, yet he has already won the NXT Tag Team Championship and WWE United Kingdom Championship. Also, his United Kingdom run went 685 days. He lost to Gunther, who then broke the record himself. Plus, Dunne won the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic with Matt Riddle and then captured the NXT Global Heritage Invitational in 2023.

After working both NXT brands, he joined the main roster as Butch. The name was ridiculous, but he made it work and fans got behind him. Then, the Brawling Brutes split and he returned to his NXT name. Now, he has been teaming with Tyler Bate as New Catch Republic.

Fightful Select is reporting Dunne stays busy with a new backstage role. He served as the producer for two matches for the new show, WWE Speed. He solely produced Cedric Alexander vs Odyssey Jones and Angel Garza vs Bate. Nobody else was listed as the producer, which is rare in WWE; especially with someone who does not have tons of experience in a new role. The newest show airs in the Spring on Twitter (X). It tapes before SmackDown and features short and fast-paced matches, hence the show’s name. 

Personally, it is great Dunne is working behind the scenes. He is an amazing talent in the ring and WWE could be eyeing him for more responsibilities. We know pro wrestling is tough on the body and mind. Having an alternative plan when the physical part becomes too much is smart business.
