Sting Special Last Match

It isn’t something that happens often (unless your name is Ric Flair), so it should be no surprise that Sting will be given something special for his last match.

I wanted to say “last match in AEW”, but thus far, the WWE Hall of Famer has not shown any indication that this one won’t be his absolute last match in wrestling.

Then again, I grew up and saw countless retirement matches (other than just for Flair and Terry Funk) to know…you never say never with this industry.

But, with that said, Sting did announce in 2023 that he would work his final match of his career in 2024.

Specifically, he circled AEW Revolution on March 3rd to be his last event.

As we’ve gotten closer to the match, we do know a bit more about things.

Like, it will be a tag match, with Sting having one last dance with his AEW partner Darby Allin. The painted duo will take on The Young Bucks.

But there’s more!

The idea of special farewell gifts is nothing new when it comes to retirements.

AEW is said to be giving Sting something special for his last match too. However, what that is, is not a memento or souvenir.

According to the Wrestling Observer, Sting will have complete creative control over his last match.

To be honest, such a call makes a lot of sense and is only fitting.

But, AEW has earned a reputation of having talent work with the creative people to have at least a little input on matches. Some talent have earned more say than others.

And when you are closing out a nearly forty year career that has seen you travel the world?

You’ve earned the right to call the entire match, as you see fit, to go out on your terms.

It’s a safe bet that all involved knew that would be the case going in. That Sting seemingly selected Matt and Nick Jackson to work his final bout with says a lot.

What seemed to be so far off is now less than two months away, and should be a match every wrestling fan wants to see.
