The WWE Hall of Famer has announced his retirement, coming early 2024…so could we see a different Sting in AEW?

If it was up to Tony Schiavone, we would.

Sting, long a fixture of WCW, enjoyed a brief run in WWE leading up to his Hall of Fame induction there.

When his WWE contract ran out, he found his way to AEW, where we’ve seen him get back into the ring as a special attraction.

This was big, considering how abruptly his WWE run ended due to a neck injury which was believed to be career ending.

But after all the years of awesome matches and being Sting, after early 2024, we won’t get to enjoy him in the ring anymore.

A man who has called plenty of Sting’s matches in WCW and in AEW, Tony Schiavone hopes we will see a different Sting for his farewell match.

Could We See A Different Sting In AEW?

Anyone who was watching Sting in WWE, or from the last couple years of WCW, only knows of one iteration of the legend.

Specifically, the black and white version, sometimes referred to as “Crow” Sting, a nod to the classic film from the 90s.

If that is only version of Sting you know…then you are missing out.

Before he became dark and hardened and known for the baseball bat…Sting was a bottle blond surfer.

Fans were treated to bright colored tights, vibrant face paint and a much more pleasant and fresh character.

And Tony Schiavone wants Surfer Sting back for that one final match.

It is certainly an interesting thought. Not every performer has gotten famous with multiple looks, but Sting is one.

Another from that same era was The Undertaker, who has retired and noted that he’d never bring the Dead Man gimmick back.

And when he made a more recent appearance in NXT, it was biker ‘Taker, not the dark original.

Perhaps Sting will hang ten one last time?
