Goldberg Tried To Be Part Of Upcoming Sting Retirement Match

On March 3, Sting will officially retire at AEW Revolution. There is no confirmed opponent, but plenty of people would love that spot.

Because he has worked with so many generations of wrestlers, it is tough to find the right suitor. It could be someone past their prime, at the peak of their career or still new to the business.

While appearing on Steve & Captain Evil, Goldberg indicated his desire to be part of Sting’s retirement match. It seems like AEW heard and were not interested.

“I tried to be part of his retirement match,” said Goldberg. “I would not have chosen to get into the world of professional wrestling if it wasn’t for Sting.”

“He was a normal dude who went out and did abnormal things. Wrestling is like being in the circus, it truly is.”

“I never looked at it with much respect, but after I watched him from afar. I realized that I had the ability to go do it. He was not only a performer.”

“He had self-respect and he commanded respect. He’s one of the best human beings on the planet, and he set an example for me and I just tried to grab it and run with it and make him proud. I had the best time of my life in the ring with Sting.”

They did share a ring, but that dates back to WCW in 2000. A lot has changed for both in over two decades.

Goldberg has been angling for a retirement match after feeling Vince McMahon lied. Maybe Tony Khan would make the deal, but so far nothing has materialized.
