Sting has wrestled for many places including AEW and WCW. While the two companies existed during different times, he sees plenty of similarities.
Sting Says AEW Reminds Him Very Much Of WCW
WCW was known for almost putting WWE out of business. While they came close, everything quickly went downward and within a few years, Vince McMahon actually purchased his competition.
One of the biggest issues with WCW was they pushed older talent who were known to WWE fans. Then, the wrestlers started pushing for creative control and that was basically the end of WCW.
Many of those who lost their job joined WWE. Not everyone, but almost all the top names made the jump.
Yet, WWE was not able to sign Sting. He sat on his WCW contract before joining Impact Wrestling.
While speaking with Sports Illustrated, Sting went over how WCW and AEW have similarities as the topic of his pending retirement was brought up.
Does AEW Have Some Creative Problems?
“Tony Khan called me and asked me to go out in style,” said Sting. “I liked that idea.”
“I couldn’t say no. The AEW brand reminds me so much of the WCW brand.”
“Tony allowed me to come back and have some fun and I’m so grateful for that. It’s been a lot of fun.”
Now, AEW will look to avoid the same mistakes WCW made. If you recall, WCW nearly put WWE out of business.
Although, WCW let the wrestlers run the show and those egos caused a billion dollar company to be sold for only a few million dollars.
Sting will retire in a few months at AEW’s Revolution pay per view. No word on who his final opponent might be.
Darby Allin is an obvious choice, seeing how they worked together since the beginning. Or, AEW could do something strange and have been take on Ric Flair.
So, who should Sting wrestle to conclude a 40 year career?
