Triple H figured Adam Copeland, formerly Edge to WWE fans, was departing for AEW. So, once the news was official, what message did the COO send?
What Triple H Told Adam Copeland After AEW Debut
Edge returning to WWE was a big deal as his in-ring career ended years earlier due to a neck injury. Eventually, he was cleared to return and rejoined WWE.
Last month, Copeland fulfilled his WWE contract. He had the option to take WWE’s new offer or see what AEW had.
In the end, he signed with AEW. During the post-show conference after WWE Fastlane, Triple H hinted at knowing what was happening and shared his message for Copeland.
“Time was right for him and time was right for us,” said Triple H “I think he had an amazing send-off here.”
“I think he had felt like he had done what he had to do, and we felt, ‘you’re right.’ I think he said it the other say that there’s no animosity here.”
“He’s doing what’s right for him and his family, and I’m happy for him. I’m very, very happy for him. I sent him that in a message, ‘I’m happy for him’ I’m proud of him and happy for him.”
“This has gotta be right for you. It’s a grind, and if any opportunity is better for them, great, that’s wonderful.”
“But, the machine doesn’t stop for anyone, right? We’re just gonna continue to grow and we’re gonna continue to do what we do.”
And, WWE keeps on rolling-forward. Attendance seems to be up and the ratings are not too bad either.
As for AEW, ticket sales have certainly slowed and the ratings have been hitting all-time lows. It is a big difference compared to how AEW was going two years go.
Copeland is now feuding with his former tag team partner and best friend, Christian Cage. The feud just started, but one promo got plenty of attention.
So, should Triple H have tried harder to re-sign Adam Copeland or did the current AEW wrestler already make the decision?
