This will disappoint some Philly and ECW fans, but one extreme Superstar won’t be at WrestleMania 40 as had been planned.
Rob Van Dam made news not all that long ago by showing up in AEW, brought in by former rival Jerry Lynn to help silence Jack Perry.
At the time, we had heard that Van Dam’s time in AEW was basically on a per-appearance basis, and that the legend of ECW had not signed any sort of full time deal.
More important, it was noted then that RVD had also gotten the blessing of someone within WWE to take the short-term booking.
This matters, because Mr. Monday Night had long since been booked to be a part of WrestleMania 40 weekend when the big event lands in Philadelphia.
Bad Bunny At WrestleMania 40 Hint?
You know…the home of Extreme Championship Wrestling, something with which Van Dam will forever be linked.
Well now, we are hearing news from the man himself.
Extreme Superstar Won’t Be At WrestleMania 40
RVD was recently informed by WWE that he is no longer booked to be in Philadelphia for WrestleMania 40.
That is quite unfortunate news for any fan hoping to interact with him at the event.
I will add, however, that time can change feelings, so perhaps something gets fixed between now and then?
That being said, RVD noted on his podcast that, while getting his eyes checked, in a rather short period of time, he was unbooked from WrestleMania 40…and then just as quickly got booked for an AEW show in Philadelphia on October 25.
It’s one of those moments where…when one door closes, another opens.
What will be interesting to see is if these latest developments lead to RVD and AEW doing something more formal. It sounded like his ‘Mania booking had been keeping RVD from that before, but with that gone…we shall see.
