Ronda Rousey left WWE following SummerSlam and indicated she was retired. Then, she made an unannounced appearance at Lucha VaVoom. So, what is going on?

Why Ronda Rousey Made Surprise Wrestling Return At Indy Show

When it comes to crossover work from UFC to WWE, Ronda Rousey and Brock Lesnar instantly come to mind. Both were huge stars in those companies.

Others found success. But nowhere near the same. That includes the likes of Matt Riddle, Ken Shamrock and Daniel Puder.

Rousey joined WWE with plenty of hype and she was constantly built as a top superstar. Slowly, her popularity decreased and fans seemed to turn on the former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion.

That is not uncommon from the fans, yet Ronda Rousey did not handle it well. She often made comments online or in interviews questioning some WWE decisions.

At August’s SummerSlam, Rousey lost to Shayne Baszler. The match was heavily panned and Rousey left WWE to retire from the business after wrestling her friend.

In an impromptu match at Lucha VaVOOM. Rousey teamed with Marina Shafir. They have plenty of history being friends and members of the Four Horsewomen of MMA.

They defeated Taya Valkyrie and Brian Kendrick. No word will if Rousey will continue to appear there.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted how Rousey could continue to work the Indy scene. There was no mention of AEW, where Shafir works.

“She just wanted to team with Marina Shafir and she might be doing a Revolver show,” said Meltzer. “You hear about that? I think it might be in November, maybe the 16th, but there’s a Pro Wrestling Revolver show in Los Angeles.”

“I think she wants to team with Marina and maybe there’s something there. She’s a free agent.”

“She can do what she wants. Now she’s doing it for fun.”

“It’s in LA. She doesn’t have to travel. She likes hanging out with Marina.”

At this point, Dana White stated he does not see Rousey returning to the UFC. If she does not fight at UFC 300, that likely solidifies her MMA retirement.
