New year, new AEW, as a report reveals the wrestling company is set to move its pay-per-views (PPV) to the Max streaming service and increase its yearly events schedule.
AEW increasing PPV Events & Moving To Max
As per both F4WOnline and Mat Men’s Podcast’s Andrew Zarian, All Elite Wrestling is set to increase the annual PPVs they host to 12 per year come 2024. It’s also expected to move them to streaming service Max, once known as HBO Max.
Since the company’s inception in 2019, they have generally held four events annually. This includes Full Gear, All Out, Double or Nothing, and Revolution.
However, the wrestling promotion has tested adding events to their annual schedule over the years. Some fine examples were adding their joint venture with New Japan Pro Wrestling, the Forbidden Door event in 2022, as well as this year’s All In, which broke records last month at Wembley Stadium.
As All In is currently confirmed to come back for August 2024, there are hints that All Elite Wrestling will be adding more events to their calendar year. This could enhance or negatively impact their product when all is said and done.
Update On Jade Cargill’s Next Move
On the one hand, the company holding four major events annually has led to weeks upon weeks of lackluster programming for Rampage and Dynamite. The promotion will often hold TV specials amidst the three-month event gaps, which sometimes succeed with viewers (Blood & Guts) and sometimes fail (Battle of the Belts).
Meanwhile, their move to stream events on Max is interesting and could follow the same protocol that the WWE or UFC does. Currently, WWE airs “Premium Live Events” on Peacock, which fans gain privy to for as low as $5.99 each month.
This is a major bargain from the days when fans had to pay $60 per event. However, with the plethora of Premium Events that the WWE hosts yearly, the quality of these shows has been watered down, just like the price.
No timeline was given for the move to Max. Fans will have to stay tuned to WNZ as details come down the pipeline.
