Detroit Fans Are Clamoring For Lions Coach Dan Campbell To Appear at WWE SummerSlam
WWE SummerSlam has rolled into Detroit and the stars of sports entertainment are geared up for what promises to be a huge event on Saturday night. Undisputed Universal Champion Roman Reigns will once again fuel the card, as he faces his cousin Jey Uso in a high-octane battle.
However, the fans in attendance could have their hearts racing for a different reason if rumors on social media hold true. With Ford Field – the home of the NFL’s Lions – as the backdrop for the show, mat maniacs in the Motor City are clamoring for a local hero to make a quick stop at the show.
Head coach Dan Campbell has become one of the most beloved sports figures in years since taking over the team prior to the 2021 season.
For years, the franchise has struggled to find success, even being responsible in recent years for some of the worst performances in NFL history. So, needless to say, the man who has switched gears on the Lions’ fortunes has gotten a thumbs-up from the locals.
Dan Campbell would fit well in the world of professional wrestling. A hard-nosed, former pro player who transitioned into coaching, he’s a favorite with media and fans.
Not only is he open and boisterous in interviews, but he’s also bullish on the sidelines and in practice. He fits the stereotypical mold of someone you want – fighting alongside you – in the trenches. (In essence, he’s Sgt. Slaughter… but with a headset and play sheet.)

To be clear: There have been no confirmations of an appearance by Dan Campbell at SummerSlam, or that talks have taken place. But that hasn’t stopped fans who follow both WWE and the NFL from doing a little fantasy booking.
Dan Campbell and the Lions head into the 2023 season after barely missing the playoffs last season, finishing 9-8. However, behind the leadership of Campbell, the team is considered to be on the rise, and many observers believe they’re poised to make some noise when the NFL kicks off next month.
Before that, however, the leading lion may drink in a roar of approval from the WWE Universe.
