AEW Collision will debut in a couple of weeks, on Saturday, June 17th. The brand-new show will feature CM Punk and is taking place live from Chicago, Illinois’s United Centre. With his splashing return to the promotion, who will he dive into a program with, first?
CM Punk’s New Rivalry For Collision
As per reports, the former AEW Champion will headline Collision, which may lead to a “soft” roster split on the show, with the exception of some titleholders. Talent was expecting a “hard” brand split with the new program, so only time will tell how everything will be laid out.
With that being said, Fight Select released a report revealing some possible opponents for his major return to the company. Some names tossed around included Samoa Joe and Chris Jericho.
Another talent listed includes former New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) World Heavyweight Champion, Jay White. The report reveals that the former AEW Champion has taken a liking to White.
It sounds like Punk is open to fighting Jay as an early opponent. As well as his Bullet Club Gold partner, Juice Robinson.
A rumble with Jay White could be a one-off match on Collision, or something that extends to the Forbidden Door event, due to the talent’s history with NJPW. It’ll be interesting to see these two in the ring together.
In addition, as per a report from Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Ace Steel will also be “heavily” involved in the creative of Collision. At least for his friend’s stories and any main angles that revolve around him.
Steel was released from AEW after the fallout from the backstage brawl post-All Out that involved him, his buddy, as well as The Elite. However, with his friend’s return to the company and involvement in Collision, Ace will also play a major role in the new AEW program.
