Now that we’ve seen the newest WWE belt, there’s one lingering question: “who pushed new title?” And following the latest show, one NXT Superstar is reportedly injured.
Who Pushed New Title
There is a new belt in the company now, but who pushed the new title?
It’s a fair question, and the overall existence and introduction of the title has been hotly discussed since Monday.
But, with Triple H leading creative since last summer, and Vince McMahon pushing his way back in…who pushed for the new title?
Considering that Vince McMahon was in charge of creative for much of the first chunk of Roman Reigns historic run…and made the call to put both titles on the Tribal Chief?
Safe to say this was not a McMahon call, right?
Yes, it is indeed a safe bet.
So, the answer to who pushed the new title is, indeed, Triple H.
That report comes to us via Sports Illustrated.
The logic behind the move is sound, if much-debated.
Roman Reigns is closing in on 1000 days as champion, and while it’s been said WWE knows who they want to end the run…we are not there yet.
There is chatter that the current TV partners are pushing for a stronger brand split, meaning fewer Superstars appearing on both Monday and Friday.
Reigns and his two belts will be a hot commodity during Friday’s start of the WWE Draft, but having a hard split would have left one show without a top tier title.
Prior to Monday’s announcement, we’ve seen both the Intercontinental Championship and United States Championship get elevated.
That has been a boost for both titles, and fans have been pretty pleased with that.
Now, with the Draft happening, Triple H has gotten his wish and in not too long, both brands will have a top champion.
We won’t find out until Night of Champions, but soon enough WWE will once again have a top champion on each brand, which should make USA and FOX happy.
NXT Superstar Injured
The latest theme show happened on Tuesday, and one NXT Superstar was injured during the show.
NXT Spring Breakin’ happened on Tuesday, and in our main event we had a triple threat for the NXT Women’s Championship.
At one point in the match, defending champion Indi Hartwell took a dive from challenger Tiffany Stratton…and Indi took the worst of it.
Her leg did not look right, and she was taken to the back by staff.
Indi was able to limp back to the ring and finish the match, successfully defending her NXT Championship in the process.
But, as we’ve learned after the show, her injury was not an angle. While we’ve seen competitors in triple threats disappear mid-match for “injuries”, this one is said to be legit.
This was underscored by numerous NXT talents, heel and face alike, praising Hartwell for gutting it out and finishing the match.
Here are a couple of those who would, in character, not be expected to be so complimentary:
And one more, though, fair warning, salty language ahead:
There is no word yet on whether the injury is anything so serious that we’d see yet another NXT Women’s Champion have to vacate.
However, for at least one night, Indi Hartwell refused to be defeated and gutted out the match despite an apparently extremely painful leg injury.
Time will tell if Hartwell will need to miss any significant time, or if things looked much worse than they were.
Still, reading Dijak’s account from the back, you have to hope for the best case scenario.
Hartwell has long been a steady worker, with some good programs but sharing the spotlight. It would be a shame to see this first big opportunity at a big push get cut short.
