Former AEW star Malakai Black is currently a free agent, after his contract with his most recent employer expired this month. Even before he returned to the open market, there were rumors the man once known as Aleister Black wanted to be a part of the new WWE era led by Paul “Triple H” Levesque.
Well, it seems he is going to get his wish and fans could see him on WWE TV very soon. On Friday, Wrestling Observer reporter Dave Meltzer revealed a deal has been signed and Black’s return is “imminent.” The news likely means the former NXT champion will get a featured match at WrestleMania 41. With that in mind, let’s look at five likely opponents for Malakai Black at April’s mega-event.

Seth Rollins

It isn’t likely that WWE legend Seth Rollins will win the Elimination Chamber match this weekend. While there have been rumblings of a match with Roman Reigns in April, that is far from guaranteed. However, a match with Black would put the former US Champion in a very high profile match at a major event right away. Furthermore, the bout likely would be the best on either card for Night 1 or 2.

Shinsuke Nakamura

Current US Champion Shinsuke Nakamura has no obvious opponent for WrestleMania 41. Black getting some hype vignettes and being revealed as his mystery title challenger at the event would be a fantastic way to bring him back to the company. Plus, the clash of their dark styles would offer up some great visuals at the event.
Sami Zayn

A case could be made that WWE should continue what made Black’s run in AEW so good. And this is being a dark heel. There is no more loveable babyface on WWE’s roster than Sami Zayn. A feud between them in the leadup to the event would be very entertaining. But the match itself could be absolute fire.

Uncle Howdy

It is unclear if the Wyatt Sicks will appear at WrestleMania 41. But if WWE does continue the House of Black vibe Malakai Black had in AEW, a feud as a heel with Uncle Howdy would be an interesting clash of supernatural visual approaches for the biggest event of the year.

LA Knight

LA Knight doesn’t seem likely to get a deserved United States title rematch at WrestleMania 41. With him being one of the most popular performers on the roster, he would be another great option for an evil version of Black in his WWE return. Don’t forget, a rising Knight faced a similar character in Bray Wyatt in his lone match after being rehired before his tragic passing a few years ago.
