Last weekend, LA Knight left SummerSlam as the new United States Champion. By defeating Logan Paul, Knight secured his first piece of WWE gold. The moment, for many, felt overdue. A year ago this time, LA Knight was arguably one of the top stars in the company. And, he got over naturally without the help of creative.
Now, to match his title belt, LA Knight has a new WWE deal. Fightful Select reported how the two sides were negotiating, but they nowhere near close when it came to money. While details are still murky, the SmackDown wrestler will be sticking around for several more years and he got a nice bump in pay too. Originally, the contract was to expire in early 2025.Â
LA Knight Had A Long Road Before Joining WWE
Looking back, it is remarkable at how his pro wrestling career has skyrocketed within five years. He was a nobody in TNA, before they made him World Champion. The momentum did not carryover to NXT. He did wrestle, but then the main roster called in spring 2022. He debuted as Max Dupri. Basically, he was a manager for the glamorous people. Eventually, he got over and WWE went back to the LA Knight name.
While many want him to be WWE Champion, that might not happen. Knight will be 42 years old in November and with his contract, he likely retires with WWE. Thankfully, he ended Logan Paul’s title run, which saw him defend the belt a few times over nine months. So, did LA Knight make the right call by signing a new WWE deal?
