Goldberg Says WWE Retirement Match Set, But Admits Injuries Are Piling Up

WWE Veteran Goldberg’s retirement match is expected to happen in the coming months. But the journey to it is not going as smoothly as expected.

The WWE Hall of Famer confirmed he’s already in training for his last match but damage to his knee, shoulder and bicep is making it tough to get ready.

“I know the date [of my final match],” Goldberg said on CarCast. “It makes it extremely difficult to get prepared without going overboard. I’ve hurt myself a couple of times in the past three months… it is tough.”

The 58-year-old who last competed in 2022 against Roman Reigns detailed a string of recent training setbacks. Including a blown shoulder, blown bicep and pulled hamstring. He also said he hasn’t been able to run at all due to chronic knee issues.

Despite the challenges, Goldberg has been working to get his body back in shape, but admits it’s pushing him to his limits.

“I got almost up to 270 [pounds] and had to back off because I couldn’t function,” he said. “I want to be in some seriously awesome shape.”

WWE hasn’t officially announced the match yet. However, internal speculation points to the July 12 Saturday Night’s Main Event in Atlanta as the potential date. That would be a full circle for Goldberg as he closes his career in the city where he started with WCW nearly 30 years ago.

The former Universal Champion also hinted at changing his look for the occasion saying he’s not sure if the traditional black trunks still make sense for this final chapter.

“I’m terrified to put those trunks on again… I may even go with a different kind of trunks.”

Goldberg has been asking for a proper sendoff for over a year. Now with the finish line in sight Goldberg is fighting time, injury and expectations, determined to go out on his terms.
