A couple of new reports added fuel to rumors that there is an internal power struggle between WWE Head of Creative Paul “Triple H” Levesque and TKO Group Holdings board member Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
Since his involvement in WrestleMania 40 last year first started, there have been rumblings that Triple H and The Rock have butted heads when it comes to various creative decisions. That only intensified when the latter was MIA from the main event of this year’s ‘Mania despite having a major role in setting up the match.
This week, a pair of interesting reports added more fuel to the speculation of a potential backstage power struggle between the WWE executive and the TKO board member. The first comes from former NXT talent. Wolfgang. He revealed an interesting story of early tension when he and his Gallus pals helped The Rock prepare for his match last year.
“We got there on Monday, on Tuesday, I don’t know what happened, but there was a bit of a falling out about, ‘You come pick me up in your private plane. No, no, no, you come pick me up. I’ll be here, you come get me,'” he told Cultaholic. “So Tuesday was scrapped. They just couldn’t get off the runway, they said there was a problem with the plane.”
“To be honest, I think it was just someone big leaguing the other one. I think it was a case of, ‘No, I don’t drive to you. You collect me.’ That’s the way I like to think it was. But regardless, the boys and I got a free day in LA.”
Could Triple H be forced out of WWE next year?
However, that is not the only report that has come out this week. In a new interview with “The Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling” podcast, former WWE announcer Jonathan Coachman claimed he has been told by sources that there is a legitimate power struggle going on. And it could lead to Triple H’s ouster in 2026.
“The reason I said on my show there’s a big power struggle; well, first of all, I’ve talked to two people close to the situation,” he said. “… I can’t tell you who they are, but I’ve got really good intel… We predicted that within 18 months, Triple H will not be running WWE anymore. I actually feel kind of bad for him because I’ve always really, really liked him.”
The WWE alum suggested that the former multi-time WWE champions have had issues dating back to their time on the roster together. Both men have made it seem like they are good friends in interviews over the last couple of years. It is hard to know what is true at this point. But it certainly seems like an instance where there is a lot of smoke, there is fire.
