WWE stars supporting a departing colleague isn’t new. But according to a new report, there was one notable exception on the June 2 episode of RAW: R-Truth.
Specifically, talent were reportedly told not to wear R-Truth merchandise after he left. The news came from WrestleVotes during a Q&A session, who said that while Dominik Mysterio was able to wear a Carlito shirt on the same episode, anything R-Truth was off-limits.
“Yeah, so we’ve seen it in the past where guys get hurt, people move on, you see one of their shirts snuck in. That happened last night with Carlito — Dominik Mysterio had a Carlito shirt on TV. But they didn’t want any R-Truth shirts being worn by talent on Monday Night RAW.”
And fans didn’t like it. Chants of “We want Truth” broke out in the arena during RAW and again the next night on NXT. Clearly WWE’s audience isn’t ready to let go of one of the company’s most beloved performers.
Truth’s exit was confirmed last week. He reportedly turned down a significantly reduced contract offer and quietly wrapped up a 17-year run with WWE. That tenure included everything from title wins to comedic segments that defined multiple eras of WWE TV.
Also, no public statement has been made by WWE, but the fallout is hard to ignore. Truth’s “Ron Cena” shirt, one of his most popular pieces of merch, was pulled from WWE Shop. That and the blocked tributes have caused backlash inside and outside the company.
For now, no return is planned, and no official reason has been given for the tribute ban. But it seems fans aren’t ready to turn the page on R-Truth just yet.
