This should not come as a big shock, but WWE Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER passes a significant milestone once again.
HIs title reign has been beyond impressive, as well as incredibly impressive…and yes, historic.
WWE fans witnessed the Austrian Superstar become the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion of all time when he sadly defeated Chad Gable recently.
As much as fans wanted Gable to pull off the biggest win of his career…GUNTHER had an undeniable date with history.
Now, new milestones continue to fall.
GUNTHER Passes A Significant Milestone
The hard striking champion recently shared that he had eclipsed 500 days as champion.
While this reign may get slightly overshadowed by the similarly impressive and historic run that Roman Reigns is on…it should not.
500 days holding gold, when he’s been fairly active when it comes to defending it? That’s incredible.
The big question, as with Reigns, is how long can GUNTHER hold the belt…and who might finally defeat him for it.
Many have tried, none have yet succeeded.
Some candidates may be destined for bigger and better things. Perhaps someone like Gable gets another shot with a different outcome now that the clear and obvious record is his.
Only thing that would be crazier? Record run versus record run, with GUNTHER being the first to pin Reigns for the belt in an eternity.
I doubt that is the path…but who knows?
No matter what, this is still an impressive rise for one of the greatest European talents in ages to hit WWE.
Considering that for some time, he was resistant to signing with WWE due to wanting to stay close to home…even after joining the now-defunct NXT UK.
Whatever was keeping him from making the move was addressed. Perhaps WWE dangled the chance of a legacy-cementing record title run as part of the plan to bring GUNTHER to the United States?
