Kenny Omega was diagnosed with diverticulitis and if not caught soon enough, the AEW star could have lost his life.
Kenny Omega Nearly Lost His Life From Diverticulitis
In December, Kenny Omega was unexpectedly removed from TV. He had been teaming with Chris Jericho for a bit and they were to challenge The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson).
Fans never witnessed the match as Omega was rushed to the ER and eventually diagnosed with diverticulitis. It is the same illness that ended Brock Lesnar’s first run with the UFC.
It is very painful and a return date is hard to predict. For now, Omega and AEW are waiting on the doctors to give the all-clear; but, that could be a long ways off.
A positive note is how Omega is apparently doing better. AEW President Tony Kahn went into details with SportsGrid.
“Kenny is doing better, but he was seriously sick and his life could have been threatened had he not gotten to the doctors when he did,” said Khan. “He was really sick.”
“Thankfully he’s doing much better. We all wish him the best and look forward to seeing him again when he’s healthy.”
In August, Omega alongside The Young Bucks and “Hangman” Adam Page re-signed with AEW. They made the decision together, despite having offers from WWE and other places.
At 40 years old, it is unclear how much longer Omega can wrestle at his current pace.
Towards the very end of 2021, he underwent hernia and knee surgeries. He has been working for months, if not a year, in rough shape.
Injuries and illnesses are just part of the pro wrestling game. Although, after awhile, the body cannot take any more abuse.
So, will Kenny Omega rush back inside an AEW ring after his life was his jeopardy from diverticulitis or will he finally slowdown?
