This week’s edition of WWE Raw saw the progression of several major storylines on the red brand. CM Punk found out he is not done with Drew McIntyre and their bitter feud will continue. A rematch for the women’s tag team titles was set up. And we now know the participants in a fatal four-way to decide Bron Breakker’s first challenger for the Intercontinental title.

With the very entertaining September 2, 2024 edition of WWE Raw in the books, let’s look at the biggest creative winners and losers from Monday’s show.
Winner: Drew McIntyre
Drew McIntyre continues to be the top heel on WWE Raw. No disrespect to Heavyweight Champion Gunther, but McIntyre’s war with CM Punk has been the highlight of the brand for months. And he took his evil-doing up to all-new levels this week with a vicious beatdown of Punk. Unlike the last time when we didn’t get to see what happened, fans got it all on Monday. He hit several claymores on the WWE legend and even destroyed his beloved bracelet. Dew McIntrye was at his villainous best on WWE Raw.

Loser: CM Punk
CM Punk is almost always a winner on whatever show he pops on. He is just that talented. But on this week’s WWE Raw, he lands in the loser spot. Mostly because, from a storyline perspective, his joy from a win over McIntyre at Bash in Berlin was short-lived. Also, it meant he would not go into a title bout with Gunther next. Plus, his promo before the attack was a little bit too warm and fuzzy and a less electrifying version of Punk.
Winner: Sami Zayn
Speaking of who is next for Gunther, Sami Zayn made an impact on this week’s show by revealing his intentions to compete for the belt. The former Intercontinental Champion was away for a few weeks, reportedly due to a stem cell procedure. However, he was back on Monday and detailed why he is a serious threat to the champ. The idea of the dominant Austrian having doubts, about if he can beat Zayn after losing to him at Wrestlemania 40, is a huge feather in the cap of the Canadian.

Loser: Iyo Sky
She was a loser for us last week and is again after the September 2 edition of WWE Raw. Iyo Sky is one of the very best, if not the best, female wrestlers on the roster. But she is anchored down by a tag storyline with Kairi Sane that is doing nothing for her. Until she can separate from her long-time Japanese pal, Sky’s immense talents will be wasted on the red brand. Making matters worse is the pair continue to be on the losing end of recent matches.

Winner: Fans during the American Made vs. Alpha Academy match
This week’s episode opened with a fantastic match between American Made and Alpha Academy. It wasn’t a five-star match that saw death-defying dives and risks. Instead, it was a clash that mixed impressive athleticism with really fun storytelling. It showcased the talents of all involved and had the crowd in Denver roaring. In the end, the fans were big winners for getting their money’s worth from the start.

Loser: Lyra Valkyria
Former NXT Women’s Champion Lyra Valkyria was not seen on WWE TV in a few weeks and when she finally returned, she was jumped by the Pure Fusion Collective. In a short amount of time on the main roster, the Irish star has shown her huge potential. However, she has been lost in the shuffle in the last couple of months and has lost a ton of momentum. Her showing on this week’s WWE Raw did little to rebuild that momentum.
Winner: Jey Uso
Few performers on the roster are as well-liked as Jey Uso. However, he has not had much to do over the last couple of months. This week’s Raw did a lot to set up what he will be busy with the next few weeks. It continued what might be a burgeoning relationship(?) between him and Rhea Ripley. But more than anything it seemed to hint he will be next for Bron Breakker and a fun feud between next-generation stars for the second-best belt on the brand could be on the horizon.
