Adam Copeland continued a common trend in AEW, having to vacate a title because of injury. At Double or Nothing, Adam Copeland defeated Malakai Black in Steel Cage Match. The final sequence saw Copeland climb to the top of the cage and connect with an elbow drop onto Black. He somewhat landed on the challenger, but mostly he fell feet first. He was diagnosed with a fractured tibia and underwent surgery less than a week ago.

On Busted Open Radio, Copeland went over all the metal put in his leg and reveled the surgery was more complicated than he hoped. “I had the surgery on Monday and it was a success,” said Copeland. “I guess it got a little complicated just because of where the break is. It’s kind of right above the ankle joint, which is called a peon fracture, apparently. So, the cartilage between your ankle and your tibia and fibula got squished, and then the break. I guess there were shards of it too, so they had to try and compact it all with the plate and the screws. I haven’t looked at an X-ray, I’m not going to. Just because that stuff, I don’t find that helpful.”

Likely To Miss AEW All In

He will be out indefinitely. Copeland will never make August’s All In from England and the fall or early winter might seem more realistic. You have to understand, Copeland will be 51 years old in the fall months and his body needs more time to rest. Truthfully, AEW’s Tony Khan should not have let him take that jump.

Copeland has been heavily praised since joining AEW around six months ago. He is seen as a veteran that is easily approachable. He likely retires in AEW, with Christian Cage. WWE was unable to re-sign Copeland and his contract ended in August because of money. Therefore, he found a new home in AEW. So, with Adam Copeland and his surgery being complicated, will it delay his return until deep winter?
