Fans knew we were getting a surprise challenger for Roxanne Perez, but who expected that, in a stunning move, TNA’s Jordynne Grace is to challenge for the NXT Championship.

Yes, you read that correctly. Not a typo, nor an April Fools joke (because, seriously, we are in May). Jordynne Grace has long impressed fans of professional wrestling, most recently through her work in TNA. And, as WWE fans saw firsthand, she wowed us in the 2024 women’s Royal Rumble. WWE Superstar Natalya, following that impressive run, expressed a desire to work more with Jordynne in the future.
Now? She might actually have a chance. After all, Natalya has spent a fair bit of time in NXT of late. Assuming she re-signs with WWE, she might spend more time with the black and gold brand. As for Jordynne Grace? As was announced on the May 28th edition of NXT TV, she gets a shot at Roxanne Perez and her NXT title at the upcoming NXT Battleground. So much for those rumblings that we’d see Tegan Nox head down to NXT to challenge Perez.
Battleground got big!
It’s a massive deal, for several reasons. Right off the bat, it confirms that WWE and TNA remain cordial and have a good working relationship. For another, it gives us a rare champion versus champion encounter. Unless something changes between now and Battleground, Jordynne Grace will enter the NXT title match with her own TNA Knockouts title. My personal favorite? I feel like the repeat appearance by Grace-who will also wrestle on next Tuesday’s show-bodes well for any possibility she could eventually join WWE. For now, she remains under contract with TNA, but it’s fun to dream.
Now, there is one other question I have following this big news: when will we see some TNA crossovers involving the men’s side of things?
