It was an interesting few days for Sheamus, to say the least. The Irish Superstar made news when he likened Gunther to Hitler. Honestly, things only went downhill from there. Sure, it was a poor attempt at trash talk before a big match. But it was that big match that really did not go his way. Fans benefited of course. We saw Sheamus and Gunther light it up. Specifically, the now former Intercontinental Champion delivered a barrage of his signature stinging chops. Pictures shared by Sheamus after the match don’t even tell the whole tale.

And this was, of course, the latest in a string of battles between Sheamus and Gunther. The pair, along with Drew McIntyre, delivered one of the best matches of WrestleMania 39. And that one left everyone with some visible souvenirs of a legitimately hard fought battle. What happened on the May 6th edition of Monday Night RAW was basically no different. Same hard hitting style. Another banger of a match leaving fans happy. But, more notably, yet another defeat for Sheamus.

It was a physical match

What was more notable happened after the match. From the locker room, using a picture showing how brutal the match was, Sheamus effectively surrendered.

Looking at the bloody welts on his chest, it is understandable why he’d want no more of Gunther. Three matches, three absolute bangers, but he is now winless against the Austrian.

Of course, in wrestling, you learn from a young age to never say never. And this to me is no different. Even though Sheamus put it on social media that there would be no fourth round, I can think of some instances where he’d have to do it. But for now at least, Sheamus has said he will not take on his fellow WWE Superstar again after the latest brutal loss.

Say, for example, Gunther wins gold again. Sheamus has never held the Intercontinental Championship-though it’s unlikely Gunther chases that now. And I doubt Sheamus would be opposed to a world title opportunity. In either scenario, if Gunther held the gold and he had a shot at it, I am certain he’d be fine with one more match against him.
