WWE went to Saudi Arabia to crown a new king and queen. First, Nia Jax defeated Lyra Valkyria to become queen. Then, Gunther seemingly defeated Randy Orton to become the king. That was the end of the tournament, with the winners moving to SummerSlam for a title shot. Although, not everything went smoothly on TV.

In the final moments of Orton vs Gunther, the former NXT wrestler got the pin. But, when looking back at the tape, it is obvious Orton had his shoulder up. Therefore, the three count should never have happened. It has people questioning if the spot was intentional or a botch. Whatever happened, WWE continued with the idea of Gunther being the victor.

Could The Spot Be An Angle?

Honestly, Gunther leaving the winner seemed like a forgone conclusion. Instead, many fans thought Orton would somehow leave with his hands raised tall. It might not have been the match many expected as the pace was rather slow. As result of the outcome, Gunther will face either Drew McIntyre or Damian Priest at SummerSlam. They battle at Clash At The Castle to see who will be World Heavyweight Champion.

There have been good odds of Gunther leaving SummerSlam as champion. Outside of a few names like Sami Zayn, Bron Breakker and Ilja Dragunov, nobody has stopped the Austria born wrestler. Now, WWE could use what happened to add Orton into the match and thus have a triple threat. Such a design could see Gunther lose without after getting pinned. Maybe, if this was an error, WWE can make an angle. So, did the referee totally blow it at King And Queen Of The Ring or was that by design?
