Sting retires later tonight at AEW Revolution, but he does regret not getting the chance to wrestle Kenny Omega.

Sting Wanted Kenny Omega Match In AEW

Tonight, Sting will end his pro wrestling career that has spanned decades across almost every promotion. His final match sees him team with Darby Allin against The Young Bucks (Nick Jackson and Matt Jackson) as they defend the tag titles.

Sting enters his final match, having never lost in AEW. As of now, the betting odds favor The Young Bucks leaving with gold.

The retirement match being a tag contest was Sting’s decision. At 64 years old, even though he is in great shape, having decent singles match is tough.

Hence, why Darby has been by his side almost for the entire AEW run.

While speaking to PWI, Sting noted how he regrets not wrestling Kenny Omega.

“I would have loved to have had a match against Kenny Omega,” said Sting. “Kenny is legitimate world champ material.”

“Obviously, he’s been AEW World champion, but, to me, sometimes how good he is goes underappreciated because he’s never been with WWE.”

Remember, working for WWE is not always the best. “The Icon” went there briefly and he was basically buried.

He won a match on RAW, but lost any high-profile contest.

“Some people think [Omega] doesn’t deserve his accolades,” said Sting. “But, he is one of the best all-around world heavyweight champions I’ve ever seen; one of the best in the wrestling industry.”

Omega has been out of action for months with diverticulitis. He is lucky to be alive and there is no word about when he could return.

For now, it is all about Sting and the final chapter of his several decade career. Simply put, it was astonishing.
