Heading into WrestleMania 32, facing the Undertaker lost some of its value. After losing to Brock Lesnar two years prior, the streak was over and many thought Undertaker would retire. He was not done and kept performing for a few more years. Apparently, there was some interest in a match against Kevin Owens. In the end, we got Shane McMahon challenging Undertaker inside Hell in a Cell. While talking to Joe Baiamonte of WrestleSphere, Owens went over the early plans for a match at WrestleMania 32.
“I know it was on the table and it was heavily discussed and it would have been amazing,” said Owens. “My first WrestleMania, to be in there with The Undertaker, would have been sweet. It didn’t happen, but I’ve been in the ring with him. I was actually in the ring with him in the main event of a Madison Square Garden show, so I got to do that with him which was really cool.”

Instead, Owens worked a ladder match at the show. He was unable to retain the Intercontinental Championship, which was won by Zack Ryder. It was a really cool moment for Ryder to win. Undertaker defeated Shane inside Hell in a Cell, with the younger McMahon jumping off the top. That spot saw plenty of attention and also got people thinking how to top such a spot.
By now, Undertaker is retired and that should not change. Owens did work opposite Shane for about a year. He never got the Undertaker match at WrestleMania, but like he said, they did interact inside a WWE ring. Working at Madison Square Garden is an unforgettable moment, especially when the Undertaker is involved. So, did WWE miss-out by not booking Undertaker against Kevin Owens at WrestleMania?
