Virgil, real name Michael Jones, who wrestled for WWE and WCW for many years is dead at the age of only 61.

We have sad to report. Virgil who spent decades in the pro wresting business has passed away. He was 61 years old.

The news was broken by Mark Charles III, who is a referee and also a former WCW wrestler that went by The Count. Charles posed the following message on Facebook.

“My dear friends, it is with great sorrow that I bring news from the Jones family of the passing of our beloved Michael Jones, whom we know and loved as Virgil, Vincent, Soul Train Jones and more,” the post reads. “Virgil passed peacefully at the hospital this morning and I ask that you pray for him and for his family. May his memory be eternal!”

Details on what exactly happened have not been revealed. Although, he has been dealing with medical issues for years and the wrestling lifestyle did not help the body.

In 2022, he was diagnosed with dementia after suffering two strokes. Then, late last year, Virgil revealed he was diagnosed with stage II colon cancer.

He began working for the WWE in 1986 and was regularly featured after being paired with Ted DiBiase. Basically, Virgil took the role of his bodyguard.

The two had issues and would split. It saw Virgil briefly capture the Million Dollar Championship, before dropping it back to DiBiase.

After the WWE run, he would join WCW. Instantly, he was inserted in the NWO stable.

Be briefly returned to WWE in 2010 for a quick program. He saw spotted a few times on AEW TV, but it never amounted to much.
