For all the bluster and big talk about retiring the decorated combat sports legend, was Matt Riddle actually afraid of Brock Lesnar?
Now that Riddle is officially free and clear of his WWE contract and non-compete clause following his release, he’s making news as only he can.
Back when he was tearing up NXT, fans may recall the Original Bro making a bold statement.
Specifically, the former UFC combatant boldly believed that he would eventually put Lesnar out of WWE.
This was at a time when Lesnar was dominating things, before we had to acknowledge the Tribal Chief.
It’s one thing to think it and keep it to yourself…but Riddle put it out there, and it ruffled feathers.
Now, years later, was he actually afraid of Brock Lesnar?
In at least one instance, I would say yes.
Was Matt Riddle Afraid Of Brock Lesnar?
There had been talk that at one point, Matt Riddle had been penciled in for the 2022 Royal Rumble victory.
Yet, I feel like I have also seen and heard that any talk about Riddle locked in to win the Rumble was false.
It’s possible that he was discussed as a possible winner, but the man himself chimed in a bit.
The 2022 Royal Rumble was won by Brock Lesnar. According to Riddle, it was supposed to be him winning the big match.
Except Lesnar came in and, as he puts it, changed the plans.
Riddle said no one stood up against the Beast Incarnate, including himself. Everyone in the back just went along with it.
Considering that at one point Riddle wanted to retire Brock…I have to think he was more bark than bite.
After all…if you were moments away from winning the biggest match of your life, with a chance to main event WrestleMania…aren’t you standing up and saying no to someone like that?
I would think so. Or, if not then, I would have surely made a stink about it before long. If nothing else, turn that into a future angle and cook with it.
Instead, Riddle didn’t do either. Which leaves me to ask…was Matt Riddle afraid of Brock Lesnar?
