WWE star Montez Ford recently sat down to an interview with Metro. He talks about the reasoning behind why the Street Profits turned heel this past summer.
WWE Star Montez Ford Explains The Heel Turn
Montez sat down with Metro to talk about a variety of things, recently. One topic of conversation was the Street Profits’ run and the reason behind why he and his partner Angelo Dawkins turned heel.
Ford notes that the gimmick got “idle” and “stagnant” for a little while. He explains that with this grows frustration as he and Dawkins had a “hunger” and wanted to accomplish more.
Despite the tag team still remaining quite popular up until their heel turn, Montez Ford notes in the interview that he believes the fans were “being nice”, as things were “obviously” not working. After all, the twosome have failed to win any WWE tag team titles since 2021.
This is why he believes the heel turn offered them a shift in momentum. He states during the interview that it’s challenging for the audience to get behind a team that consistently fails.
Montez and Dawkins aligned with Bobby Lashley in August of this year. It marked the first time the team turned heel on the main roster.
Still, they have yet to score any gold since teaming up with Lashley. With that being said, the twosome did win a number one contender’s bout on a recent edition of Friday Night SmackDown.
Montez Ford and Dawkins entered the company in 2016, debuting within NXT in March of that year. They’d end up getting their main roster call-up in 2019.
During their tenure with the company, they have been NXT Tag Champions, RAW Tag Champions, as well as SmackDown Tag Titleholders. In fact, they are the second tag team in the promotion’s history to become Triple Crown Tag Team Champions.
