LA Knight suffered a crushing loss in his attempt to snag that WWE Universal Championship from Roman Reigns at this past weekend’s Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia. According to a report, there are some within the organization who are under the impression that the star has reached his peak. Could this mean his push in the company is over?
As per a report by Sports Illustrated Justin Barrasso, WWE currently has no plans for the star to win the 2024 Royal Rumble or challenge Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40. There’s a belief internally that the talent has reached his popularity peak.
It was noted in the report that the wrestler’s merch sales are doing very well. Still, it also states that the company is redirecting its focus on other storylines, so the aftermath of Crown Jewel and how well the star can continue to connect with fans, will be pivotal for him.
Could LA Knight’s WWE Push Be Over?
The report notes that as a 20-year veteran of this industry, he is hungry to become WWE Champion. Still, it seems like part of the reason the company will shift focus on him is something Roman Reigns hinted during a promo with this Crown Jewel challenger, stating he was a “redneck knock-off” of The Rock.
If those backstage don’t see something different or unique about his character, LA Knight’s going to have to find a deeper way to connect with fans, moving forward. The good news is that even though he may not become a WWE champion soon, due to his popularity, he’ll continue to be in the spotlight and likely at the top of the card.
The report reveals that while Knight won’t be getting a push into the #1 Contender spot for Roman Reigns’ title, Cody Rhodes is expected to. There’s also a good chance The American Nightmare faces the Tribal Chief at WM 40.
