During AEW’s Full Gear pay-per-view (PPV) this weekend, Hangman Page faced Swerve Strickland. At one point during the bout, Page drank Strickland’s blood that leaked from his forehead, spitting it in the air. WNZ has an update on how this move was received by officials.
Full Gear – AEW Officials Approved Texas Death Match Spot
The move was quite controversial, to say the least. Still, while it was well-received by many, some felt the spot was brutal.
This placed a question mark around whether the blood-spitting was approved by the company officials. A new report sheds light on this.
According to Fightful Select, both Strickland and Page pitched the spot before the bout. It was said to be approved by management.
In fact, AEW is quite happy with the reaction in the days after the bout and PPV. Despite the theatrics, Hangman was unable to beat Swerve, who ended up defeating him via a knockout.
This was a huge win for Strickland, and whether fans approved of the blood spot or not, the match itself was one for the books. The win also sets Swerve up for bigger and brighter things ahead.
With that being said, WWE Hall Of Famer Bully Ray believes the bout has brought Strickland to another level. After all, this is the second Texas Death match win for him in 2023, as he already scored a victory against Jon Moxley in the same type of match at Revolution.
Swerve was once a part of the WWE, performing under the NXT brand. He also had an impressive 100+ day run as NXT North American Champion.
He unfortunately was released by the company in late 2021. He became All Elite in March of 2022 and has been riding a high wave within the company, since.
