Impact Wrestling is making a major change, at least when it pertains to their name. Going forward, they plan to use what they were called on day one, TNA.
Why Impact Wrestling To Revert Back To TNA Name
There was a huge announcement teased for Bound for Glory. Several speculated how they secured a better TV deal or a huge name, like CM Punk, had signed.
In in the end, it was none of those mentioned. Instead, we learned Impact Wrestling will be changing their name to Total Nonstop Action.
For anyone who recalls, the promotion debuted in 2002 with the first few years seeing them airing exclusively on pay per view. The name created a cool chant, but TV networks were not sure since the orignal title can have a sexual meaning.
Update On Adam Cole’s Injury Status
When Hulk Hogan and his crew joined, they switched the name to Impact Wrestling and dropped the six sided ring. As of now, there are no plans for that specific ring to return because it is too punishing on the body.
According to PWInsider, management wanted a way to portray the company’s history. The past 21 years has seen the company use several names.
Originally, they part of the NWA before dropping those letters. Then, it was switched to Impact Wrestling and Global Force Wrestling (GFC) for a time.
Having a variety of names is confusing for the common wrestling fan. Therefore, imagine how the occasional viewer or someone unfamiliar with the product would react.Â
The report continued how international business partners preferred the old name over the current one. Also, fans were polled with many selecting the original name as their preference as they still chant it during events.Â
They were supposed to make the announcement at Slammiversary in July, but it needed to be delayed. It seems they were ready to make the official change as of a few weeks ago.
Returning to the name from day one will start again in January.
