Now that he has finally returned, officially, what are WWE’s plans for Carlito?

Fans first saw the former United States and Intercontinental Champion back when Backlash was in Puerto Rico.

He worked alongside the LWO as they took on Judgement Day, and the pops he received were amazing.

Now, some of that could be written off to, you know, the hometown impact of a Puerto Rican star working in front of proud fans.

But even fans watching on Peacock were impressed. Carlito looked to be in great shape, and he fit right in with the faction.

Turns out that the Backlash appearance served as a springboard for Caribbean Cool to get back into the WWE.

Over the summer, word leaked that Carlito had cancelled some independent appearances, with the reason given that he had re-signed with the company.

And then…we waited. While the Superstar had been signed and under contract for a couple months, he was not immediately brought in to work.

But just like that, a storyline reason for his arrival happened. On the October 6th SmackDown, Bobby Lashley and the Street Profits took out both Joaquin Wilde and Cruz Del Toro.

With both members of the LWO written off, Rey and Santos needed a third…so Rey Mysterio “placed a call.

According to PWInsider, Carlito is expected to remain a part of the Latino World Order, which means his immediate future is on the SmackDown brand.

As far as why it took so long to get him back into WWE?

Per the report, WWE had simply wanted a logical re-entry point, since his Payback deal was purely a one-off. At that point, without a deal in place, you couldn’t just have him show up on the next Friday show.

There had been reports that Carlito was going to re-debut during a July show, but he never did. According to PWI, this fell apart due to that show becoming short on time.
