Tommaso Ciampa Recalls Being Part Of Controversial WWE Angle

Before singing with WWE, Tommaso Ciampa did appear for the company. Back in 2005, he was slightly involved an angle involving The Undertaker and Muhammad Hassan.

Ciampa was portraying the role of Hassan’s lawyer. The former NXT World Champion was there right after WWE had to remove the Hassan character.

Remember, WWE had just ran an angle where several masked man attacked The Undertaker upon him defeating Daivari. The segment took place shortly after England suffered a terrorist attack.

On the “Insight with Chris Van Vliet” podcast, Tommaso Ciampa recalled having to apology on TV as a way to smooth the tension the angle created for TV Networks.

“[Muhammad Hassan] disappeared after this,” said Ciampa. “But they were like, ‘you have to do an apology for his actions last week. And it has to come off sincere and real because we’re actually apologizing to the network on live TV because that’s what they requested.’”

“And it was just bizarre because, in my head at this point, I’m like, with Jamie [Jamitkowski], the promoter [of Chaotic Wrestling]. I’m like, ‘Why didn’t they just hire an actor? Why didn’t they hire somebody professional?’ And, I was like, ‘This is so bizarre.’”

“But I was a promo guy. I’ve always been a promo guy. He’s like, ‘It’s just like your penmanship promo. Just go do one of your penmanship promos.’”

“I’m like, ‘Thank God, I have this script. I can read it.’ And like they were like, ‘You’re reading it. You don’t have to memorize it.’”

After losing at the Great American Bash pay per view, Hassan was gone from WWE. He then left the business to focus on education.

Ciampa recently returned to WWE after being out with an injury. There have been several clues of a possible reunion with Johnny Gargano and The Way.
