His unexpected return generated a ton of buzz...but could The Rock come to The Land Down Under?
WWE recently made a huge announcement that Australia’s Optus Stadium in Perth will be hosting the 2024 Elimination Chamber PLE.
While the company has done special events overseas before, Elimination Chamber is a much bigger deal. It has an important place on the Road to WrestleMania.
And, at least one Australian news outlet has helped fire up speculation that Dwayne Johnson will be at the show.
The speculation has some merit, of course, but let’s discuss…
Could The Rock Come To The Land Down Under?
The new report has reasons for this speculation…and like I said, good ones.
First, The Rock has openly admitted that a Rock/Reigns clash had been intended for Hollywood this past April, but it fell apart. And, most importantly, The Rock is still open to that massive match.
Then comes his big SmackDown return.
Add to that, Endeavor just bought WWE, formed TKO and probably wants to deliver one massively awesome first WrestleMania under the new banner.
With all that out there, having The Rock in Perth for Elmination Chamber does make some sense, though he does not seem needed to sell tickets. Reports of 80,000 requests for tickets indicate that the show, with or without him, should be a full house.
So could The Great One work the show? It would be a big show before the biggest show of the year, so there’s logic to it.
But I’d expect WWE will want him working as little as possible to make a potential WrestleMania match that much bigger.
However, there is a wrinkle. On Sunday, September 24th, the Hollwood writers reportedly have a tentative agreement to end their strike.
Their strike, plus a coinciding strike by the actors, is why Johnson suddenly has free time.
Should the writers strike truly be over, the actors might not be far behind…and if all parties get back to work in Hollywood, it may throw a wrench into The Rocks hopes.
